After hearing, more like reading, about Drake’s debut video for “Breast I’ve Ever Had” I decided to take a look for myself. Not so sure why people are so surprised. Anything that has Kanye West attached to it means there will be the objectification of women.
I wouldn’t call Mr. West a misogynist but rather a man who truly admires the female anatomy. He loves beautiful women. Its better if she’s damn near naked, big breasted and standing in pumps. He picks his girlfriends like a kid picks a toy in the store. She must attract his eye, keep his attention, make all the other boys (and girls) jealous and when she’s no longer shiny and new he tosses her in the junk pile.
To see all the bouncing mammaries at the start of the video just verified that this was Kanye’s homage to women, in his own special way. I wasn’t offended by this. If it wasn’t there, then I would be shocked.
You may take issue with what I did take issue with. As a (former) athlete, I was more offended by the awful depiction of women’s basketball.
In the clip, hip hop’s next coming of the messiah plays a basketball coach of big breasted, little waisted video girls who send the majority of the 5 minute and 29 second clip stretching and toweling themselves off. At the end they have a game and get crushed by some very unattractive, manly and not so skinny women.
Which me got to thinking: How do you react to a casting call that says “Unattractive women needed, flat chested, fat, acne for music video”. What makes you say “Hmmm, I’m not cute let me go for this job and be the butt of a distasteful joke”? Talk about being motivated by money.
We complain about pretty women being exploited. What about ugly women. Will BET do a special report on them? Can unattractive video girls get a reality show on E! Were each week they fight over who is the ugliest and why they book the most gigs?
Back to Drake and his bouncing breast cameos…
I’ve played ball since I was 14, played all through high school and half of my college years. When guys found out I played they were always shocked, “You don’t look like you play ball.” Another common line: “You’re pretty for a ball player.” The stereotypes that were shown in the video angered me. I don’t like to see people who can’t play ball, play ball. I wish more people realized that it’s not masculine for a woman to be good at sports. More importantly I hope everyone has learned never to let Kanye West direct your video unless you want it to look like an episode of Benny Hill and be lamp-blasted by everyone and their mother.
Drake, a lot of your female fans are pissed. A lot of real ballers are pissed as well.
To save you from the madness I did not post the video here. Go punish yourself on your own.

my breasts STILL hurt from this video. “owwww”…
